My fees cover my time, guidance, and support services only. The Licensed Insolvency Trustee who administers your proposal or bankruptcy charges separate regulated fees under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act — these are set by the federal government and come out of your monthly proposal payments.

Monika

"My goal isn't just to get you through the process — it's to help you come out the other side stronger."

The person behind
AskMonika.ca

I'm an insolvency counsellor and mortgage advisor based in Ontario. I started this practice because I saw how many people were going through one of the hardest financial experiences of their lives without anyone truly explaining what was happening or what came next.

I fill that gap. Where a trustee administers your file, I support you through it — with clear explanations, hands-on document help, and genuine care for your outcome. And because I also work in mortgages, I can walk with you all the way from financial difficulty to homeownership.

Clarity

Plain-language explanations at every stage. No jargon, no confusion.

Transparency

Fees agreed upfront. No percentages, no surprises.

Continuity

One person from consultation through to discharge and beyond.

Outcome-Focused

I measure success by where my clients are two years after discharge.

Common Questions

What people ask before
they reach out

If your question isn't here, just ask — that's what I'm here for.

What's the difference between you and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee?
A Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) is the only person legally allowed to file and administer your consumer proposal or bankruptcy. I work alongside trustees — helping you prepare your documents, understand the process, and navigate everything involved. Think of me as your guide and advocate.
Do I need to see a LIT separately?
Yes. Filing a consumer proposal or bankruptcy legally requires a LIT. After our consultation, I'll connect you with a reputable trustee who will administer your file. I continue to support you alongside them throughout the process.
How long does a consumer proposal take?
A consumer proposal can last up to 5 years (60 monthly payments). However, you can pay it off faster if you choose. I'll stay available to you throughout the entire duration — not just at the beginning.
When can I start rebuilding my credit?
You can start rebuilding credit right away — even before your discharge. I'll walk you through a step-by-step plan starting with secured credit products, and build toward full credit recovery and mortgage eligibility on a realistic timeline.
Is my consultation confidential?
Completely. Everything we discuss stays between us. There is no obligation to proceed, no judgment, and no pressure. Many clients simply need to talk through their situation before deciding on next steps.
I already started working with someone else. Can you help?
Absolutely. If you've already started the process but need support, guidance, or a second opinion, I offer consultations for exactly that situation. We can assess where things stand and figure out how to move forward.
